I think that the Gay Lobby will find that this was their own "bridge too far". I think there may be a backlash that may set them back some years.I agree; but my fear then is what's going to happen when the generation of kids they've brainwashed over the past decade grows up and reaches voting age? If we're really going to set them back we've got to beat them back on that cultural front, too. I think there needs to be another "Hollywood Ten" type of crackdown on the media. Getting Disney out of Eisner's hands is a good step.

Agreed on the kids.
I was pretty pleasantly surprised at the beginning of our war on terrorism that most of my students understood the issues and supported the war and our president. However, on this gay "marriage" issue, I only have a small percentage of strongly Christian students who find anything wrong with the issue. Even students from more moderately Christian homes think this gay union stuff is right. And of course, most of the students have no set of core values at all and they think it's great! They view my opinions on the issue as either old-fashioned or right-wing Christian. Not opinions they place any value on. It's a tough one. Its gotta change or like you said, their generation will not guard our foundational values.
