I don't know any more about what happened other than what she said in her email, about forgiving him. It was a sad time. My throat still gets tight whenever I drive by the cemetary.
I was just so emotionally involved in this child...she had been through so much, fought so hard, (even to just be born) and accomplished more than anyone ever hoped, she was almost done with all the procedures they needed to do for her...she only had the trach still because she was having some reconstructive surgery on her skull...a relatively minor procedure, from what I understood. Then she got congested, mucus in her trach, and the mom debated whether or not to take her to the ER herself...opted to call EMS to "be on the safe side." The EMS guy had the settings on the ventilator set for an adult when he placed it on the baby.
We just thought she was almost out of the woods, physically...there was some pretty bleak times that little one fought through.
It wasn't like she got sick and died...it was just so sudden.
Obviously it left an impact on me...I've talked about it before here in the Hole, and just to stand in Walmart crying again today I guess pretty well means I'm not over it.
