PJ and Gibson have raised the bar on the Hollywood Establishment so high and so fast it may take years before they even know it's happened.Agreed on that. Dare we hope that we get more film of this quality? I hope so!
the portrayal of the Sanhedrin is not an indictment of the Jews, but rather one against intellegencia and elitists of all the ages, the "secular humanists",
And that's exactly what the Sanhedrin was. They had so dissociated themselves with the Spirit of God that their entire lives revolved around Temple politics. They were the "politically correct" of their time. I think that showed through in the film quite well.
I was very pleased to hear Mel Gibson make the statement on one of the talk shows the other night that "no one can be a Bible believing Christian and be anti-semitic." If you read the book... you will see that to follow Him you must not be. I was just so pleased to hear Mr. Gibson say that, because the concept is so difficult to get across to people sometimes!
Yeah, I know, the goober-heads won't have heard Mel say it either...

Can you look forward? - The Joan Rivers red carpet thing hasn't started yet. They are just doing a really bad job of filling now.
To: Wneighbor
Well, the red carpet isn't supposed to start until 3 pm here, so maybe you should check back in about 45 minutes just in case...

I look longingly sometimes at the tiny bodies in gorgeous fancy gowns, Please don't. Your dress is PERFECT!! and that is something those tiny bodies will never be able to convince themselves they've found. You're totally correct about the pretentiousness thang.

We also agreed that our generation is wicked enough to have crucified our Lord had he chosen our time instead. Maybe not in America and maybe not crucifixion, but it would happen.

Toast from TORN...
The Toast Heard 'Round the World!
Quickbeam @ 4:05 pm EST
Ladies and Gentlemen: Hobbit lads and lasses,
We are met tonight at the crossroads of cinema history: where both Art and Commerce intersect in a magnificent collision, where critics and audiences both applaud the power of movies.
The wonders of Middle-earth have unfolded before our eyes, shining on the silver screen as never before. We have witnessed visions of such staggering beauty, created by a dedicated team of artists and craftsmen and musicians. In such cynical times as these, how miraculous it is to see unsullied hope carried on the shoulders of our favorite heroes.
For 50 years now, through Professor Tolkien's exquisite words, we have learned that nothing moves the human heart as much as good storytelling. And now we embrace the power of such storytelling in another medium. Tonight we raise our glasses in toast to a gentle Kiwi filmmaker with a singular vision.
{Participants raise glasses.}
To Peter Jackson and his many, many supporting players who helped bring this story to a new generation of fans. We congratulate you all.
The road goes ever on.... Cheers!
