You are right. I know many hispanics and only a very minority of them have much sympathy for illegals for a variety of reasons.

That's what I would have thought, so why do people always say, when this crops up, that proposals like the ones Bush is putting forward are "pandering to the hispanic vote". Are there any polls to show this?

I don't know of any polls on this issue. I think it has to do with peoples attitudes on race. They figure that hispanics are all the same and all think alike. They couldn't be any farther from the truth of the matter if they lived on Mars.
