Well, so that is that
W.H. Auden
Well, so that is that. Now we must dismantle the tree,
Putting the decorations back into their cardboard boxes -
Some have got broken - and carrying them up to the attic.
The holly and the mistletoe must be taken down and burnt,
And the children got ready for school. There are enough
Leftovers to do, warmed up, for the rest of the week -
Not that we have much appetite, having drunk such a lot,
Stayed up so late, attempted - quite unsuccessfully -
To love all of our relatives, and in general
Grossly overestimated our powers. Once again
As in previous years we have seen the actual Vision and failed
To do more than entertain it as an agreeable
Possibility, once again we have sent Him away,
Begging though to remain His disobedient servant,
The promising child who cannot keep His word for long.

CHRISTMAS PAST
How joyous were those Christmas bells as merrily we smiled
So happy were the faces of every sweet young child
While men and women hurried, there was so much to be done
Before we each and everyone could settle down to fun
There were the happy carollers who blessed us with their songs
A tribute to The Holy Child from mortal happy throngs
So like the herald angels their voices loud and clear
They sang to us with love and joy, just as they do each year
Some pretty girls then came along with some quite handsome boys
To join us in our merriment, more substance to our joys
Needless to say that everyone was in a merry mood
Busy buying Christmas gifts, preparing Christmas food
Finally 'tis Christmas morning,
Children have waited for its dawning
Eager now to search the tree
To see what Santa left you see
Of course it helps if they have been good
Behaving as young people should
But then small faults are overlooked
With yuletide kindness we all are hooked
Sadly merry Christmas ends
the decorations put away
The lovely tree which served so well
is put aside has had its day
We all have had such jolly fun
the festive season now is done
The happiness cools down at last
When Christmas now becomes Christmas past

Good Evening, Amy.
Clean-up has already begun. Early-bird shopping for Mrs.d in the morning while I've been delegated to stacking and storing all those plastic tubs filled with decorations. Think I'll wait for warmer, dryer days before removing the outside lights.
Only 11 months to go before we start putting up the decorations again. In the meantime, the days are starting to get longer and warm sunshine is but a few short weeks away. :) My neighbor's daffodils are already sprouting up through the ground.

One Day After Christmas:
It's one day after Christmas
I'm crabby and I'm broke.
I'm so full of ham and fruitcake
I think I'm gonna croak.
It's nice to see the relatives
I wonder when they'll leave.
They've been camping in my bathroom
since early Christmas Eve.
They're eating everything in sight
and sleeping in my bed.
I been sacked out in the basement
with my beagle, Fred.
The relatives have all gone out
and left their screaming brats.
The toilet bowl is all plugged up
and I can't find the cat.
It's Christmastime at my house,
the relatives are here.
They eat me out of house and home.
and drink up all my beer.
I love the decorations,
and the sleigh bells in the snow
But I wish those pesky relatives
would take their kids and go.
Those cookie crunchers fed the dog
a twenty pound rib roast.
His feet are sticking in the air
like skinny old fence posts.
Now they're in a free-for-all,
the girls against the boys.
They're fighting over boxes
'cause they're bored with all their toys
My mother-in-law is snoring
in my favorite TV chair.
Those kids are stringing lights on her
and tinseling her hair
I oughta wake her up
before the fireworks begin.
But I wanna see those blue sparks fly
when they plug her in.

Good evening, Dave.
I'm not sure that I'm going to brave the stores tomorrow. Mrs. D is much braver than I am.
I haven't checked to see if my daffodils are coming up. I look forward to days that are a little warmer; but not the 107 of July. Just impossible to please me. LOL
Did you have lots of family over for dinner? I love to get as much of the family together as possible. It's the only time I get to see some of the great-nieces and great-nephews.
Hope you had a blessed Christmas.

Christmas Together
What does one say to food like unto the Gods themselves,
ambrosia, succulent feasts, drawn from human dreams.
Blending with comradeship, and laugher, and easy smiles,
adding the spice of life to already overladen tastebuds.
Paper bound surprises and wondrous discoveries,
amid a pile of paper floating to the floor in happy mindless litter.
Renewed and renewing, and offering unexpected paths to explore,
friendships and relationships sharpen and mature like a fine wine.
Finally time comes to say adieu, surprising hard, yet it must be,
if only to add the dimension of distance to sweeten the next meeting.

A prisioner in jail received a letter from his wife:
"I have decided to plant some lettuce in the back garden. When is the best time to plant them?"
The prisioner, knowing that the prison guards read all the mail, replied in a letter:
"Dear Wife, whatever you do, DO NOT touch the back garden! That is where I hid all the gold."
A week or so later, he received another letter from his wife:
"You wouldn't believe what happened. Some men came with shovels to the house, and dug up the whole back garden."
The prisoner wrote another letter:
"Dear wife, NOW is the best time to plant the lettuce!"

We had a very nice Christmas Day.
We actually had our Christmas Dinner and Gift exchange last Saturday before some of our young-uns traveled to England on Monday. Dropped them off at SFO Monday evening. The Internationl Terminal at the airport looked deserted. No traffic, very few passengers in the ticket lines. Nary a sign of beefed up security the day before they went to Orange Alert. Glad they aren't flying on AirFrance.

HI there, JK
Does Mama_Bear feel like that too. I thought that graphic was perfect for today. I feel like I can't cook or eat anything for at least a month. My Sister brought over home made fudge. Just what I needed. LOL
We had a great Christmas; I took a nap after all the family left.
I hope yours and Lori's Christmas was wonderful.

That is a wonderful poem, Trike.
Having family together during Christmas is the best gift ever. It doesn't matter that the young ones cry or get tired and cranky. It is just so good to get together and show them family love and unity.
Thank you so very much for the family poem.
If your poem is any indication, I would say sounds like you had a lovely Christmas.

We had a wonderful Christmas. I did eat way too much but the TUMS have helped. It is about time to call it a day and get a long winters nap.

It is great that you had Christmas together before they left.

It seems that there was a little old church out in the countryside: painted white and with a high steeple.
One Sunday, the pastor noticed that his church needed painting. He checked out the Sunday ads and found a paint sale. The next day, he went into town and bought a gallon of white paint. He went back out to the church and began the job.
He got done with the first side. It was looking great. But he noticed he had already used a half gallon. He didn't want to run back in town and being the creative person that he was, he found a gallon of thinner in the shed out back, and began to thin his paint.
It worked out great. He finished the remaining three sides with that last half gallon of paint.
That night, it rained: it rained hard. The next morning when he stepped outside of the parsonage to admire his work, he saw that the first side was looking great, but that the paint on the other three sides had washed away.
The pastor looked up in sky in anguish and cried out, "What shall I do?"
A voice came back from the heavens saying, "Repaint, and thin no more!"
