I had to crack up at the end, when Aragorn has walked out into the crowd after the coronation, and Legolas walks up looking so beautiful. I leaned over to ecurbh and said "No, Legolas, this is not your wedding day!"
heh.... I am bad.... hit me.

I'm not sure Elijah can tell ANY story with his eyes. He certainly can tell any sad story with his eyes, he's got more different looks of depression fear consternation and regret than anybody I've seen, and layers he can really stack them up. Should have a good long career.

I'm remembering his face and delivery in a scene for which I can't remember the context.
Gandalf's frowning, and then just suddenly sort of shakes his head and grumps, "Hobbits!"
Something about food, I think. What was that?

It was at Merry and Pippin smoking and eating at the ruins of Isenguard.

Elves are pretty, it's their curse.
Speaking of Legolas I have to give PJ the nod AGAIN. Through 20-odd years of gaming and reading and watching fantasy I always thought Elven archers were wussies that shouldn't really be considered Fighters. And once again PJ showed that Elven Archers are quisinarts of death gracefully and stylishly delivered (I especially like the extraneous hop from one oliphant leg to the other, he could have just as easily climbed up the front leg but he apparently like the handholds better). I'm not sure I actually like respecting Elven archers but thanks to PJ I must respect them.

The best part was him sliding down the trunk of the now dead creature waiting for someone to hand him a merlot (Elves are too effete for beer).

Nah; the best part was Gimli sputtering, "That still counts as one!"

And Legolas was counting all the way through too. A lot of people complained about Gimli being comic relief but I liked it. Somebody needs to break the tensions and dwarves are innately funny.

Gimli would be comic relief if he were incompetent, one-dimensional, and Gilliganlike. But he's deadly serious, and deadly. See him on the bridge with Aragorn, etc. I just think he's funny! Love the character, love the actor.

There was a big applause at my theater when Legolas did his thing too. and some hoots and hollers too.

During that scene I turned to Rose and whispered in my Beavis & Butthead voice, "Huh huh, he's climbing on an elephant's butt."

I agree. Bravo Peter Jackson. I cried though the whole thing...

I never have read LOTRs. My only encounters with it are the movies. This means that there was less opportunity for me to be disappointed with Jackson.
I must say that ROTK was BY FAR better than the first two films.
It seemed to me that even the CG for Smeagol/Gollum was better than that of the 2nd film.
Not reading the book, I still had some knowledge that much happened with the Hobbits in the Shire after their return from Mordor. I had hoped that they would include that.
I know that they spent $millions on this movie, and had only 3 movies (11 or so hours) to use.
With that being said, they can't possibly cover every single scene. With it all behind them, I am sure that they would have done this in four films, including all elements. I think that they did well with the length of film given them, and the time on the set.
ROTK deserves to receive the Academy Award for Picture of the Year. I also believe that Sean Astin should win for Best Supporting Actor.

Knowing Hollywood, they will give LOTR the Oscar shaft. 1) it was made in New Zealand 2) its a fantasy film 3) it shows the noble side of war 4) most of the older academy members are not going to sit through a 3 hour and 20 minute film. They will probably see a Sean Penn film or Cold Mountain instead....
Regardless, I really don't care. I had one small complaint with the movie that I hope is cleared up in the EE. Gandalf never said "This is the Hour of DOOM!"

True, most of his dialog is comic relief but he actually contributes to the team. I don't think there was a dwarf tossing reference in ROTK, hopefully there's on in the extended version.
