The Hobbit Hole V - Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
ecurbh

Posted on 12/11/2003 2:07:57 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Cold-weather farming is a pain in the butt!

Cold-weather living is a pain in the butt IMO!

But, you will not hear me fussing when it gets up to triple digits. Mmmmm... warmth!

I've never met any people that were so perfectly described by their screennames as Rose and Bear.

Yep, see why it's hard to call 'em by those other names?

Mornin'! Is it cold on the beach? Today I'm ready to move anyplace with double digits!

Steve was amazing. We were layin' in the bed...huddled under the blankets because the wind was howling and I said:

"The light is fixin' to go off in the coop and those chickens are going to be in the freezing cold."

"What do you want to do?" Steve asks.

I think a bit and then say:

"I want to go out there and disconnect the timer and then put a heatlamp in the coop that will burn all night."

"Ok." he says...and starts to get up!

He disconnected the timer (which required going outside, standing on a chair and unplugging the timer, then re-plugging the orange extension cord. It's on the underneath part of our roof...the eave, you know?)

I went out to the coop, disconnected the plain 75 watt light bulb and put in a red 250 watt heat lamp bulb. Also gave them a fresh waterer of warm water, since the one they had was already frozen.

All of this at shortly before midnight.

LOL

I am glad you had a helper at midnight! And at those temperatures.... it might have saved them. I don't know how hardy they are!

I had a dream about Entmoot last night... Nothing really happening that I can describe, just people walking in, saying something to me, and then walking out.... kinda like the thread.

I am not sure which of the peoples here watch the Anime stuff, but my son is into it. He showed me something the other night that he had downloaded from WinMX. It was a trailer for LOTR movies done with various Anime strips, but the sound was from the movies. It was hilarious! I wish I knew how to show it to all here. If anyone gets the WinMX stuff they can find it as the 'Lord of the Rings trailer Anime'.

And you were just sitting there munching popcorn the whole time?

Yes, kinda cold. But to me anything below 60 is a blizzard. It was 44 this morning. oooff. I don't have heat at home. I rely on a couple of little oscillating space heaters. And if it gets really cold I light a fire in the fireplace.

Yep...it's nice to have a helper and at least one friend that doesn't think I'm out of my mind! LOL

For my pains, Roy has already, in the last few minutes, laid me an egg.

:-)

I gotta go. I don't have any supplies for Joshua's lunch! Gotta swing my Walmart and pick him up a lunchable!

See you after while.

Know what you mean. I didn't have heat at my old house either. Had a space heater in the bathroom and one of the bedrooms only until a couple of years before I moved. I finally decided I needed a heater in the living room and one other bedroom. Was the reason why I became a maniacal bread baker though, the oven warmed the living area somewhat.

I don't like running those things at night. I rely on an overweight cat and lots of blankets and comforters.

Are you planning to keep a scorecard for who entertains you the most? Corin will be at a severe disadvantage with such a short stay. Too bad.

And even as we speak I am obcessing over whether to repack my sleeping bag with an even warmer blanket than the one I just put in there! I don't think I'll bring a cat though. Gnad wouldn't like it sleepin' in his tent.

Night PE! Try to stay warm! It's WAY too cold for Texas right now!

It's 24 freakin degrees this morning. I even saw ice fer Christ sake.

Yes. Florida is warm. But, only slightly warmer than Texas. It will seem warmer there to you than it will to me. I don't like temps below 70. And I just downright protest anything below 60. Ruthy said they are forecasting highs in the 60's and lows in the 40's. These are not happy vacation on the beach numbers for me.

The warm cozy long bathrobe is calling to be rolled up in the sleeping bag now too. Maybe instead of the extremely warm blanket. I wanna sleep in the tent. BUT, I don't wanna be chilly!
