The Hobbit Hole V - Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
ecurbh

Posted on 12/11/2003 2:07:57 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

I don't have it very often. But man...the kick that stuff gives is something way beyond a normal caffeine rush. Not sure what all is in it, but it does work!

I've been hooked on that before. Don't wanna again.

'Sides, that's just sugar and caffeine. Red Bull actually has SOME healthy stuff in it, I think.

Honestly, I've had a total of about three cans in my entire life, so I dunno! But Ramius said he needed something to keep him awake, and that was my first thought.

I've not tried Red Bull, and don't really see the need. My grandparents introduced me to the Dew when I was 8 or 9. It was the only soda they kept around. I don't have it much these days, 'cause I know the secret now.

Well, we made it home at about 4:00 this morning. Let me give you the run down of our day yesterday.

We left for the one hour ride to the theatre at 10:00am. Tami asked me if this was a bit early, but I told her we were probably leaving a bit too late. We got to the theatre and there was a long line in place already. Tami couldn't believe it.

Let me stop right now and give a bit of praise to the Regal Cinemas at Waterford Lakes in Orlando. They did a great job of handling this event. A manager came down the line before the theatre had opened its doors and asked if there were any Fandango ticket buyers left who had not claimed their tickets yet. Me and a couple other guys hadn't so the manager brought us into the theatre so we could get them. Once the theatre opened the line moved very fast and we were in the actual theatre before we knew it. There was no preassigned seating but once we got in the theatre and seated the workers came around and handed us tickets that identified the seats we were in, we got some good ones, as ours for the duration. So kudos to Regal Cinemas for making this thing work smoothly, it could have been a disaster if they hadn't prepared beforehand.

Seeing FoTR EE on the big screen was wonderful. It almost felt like I was seeing it all over again. I hadn't watched FoTR in a long time and I liked seeing it on the big screen again. It was nice to be in a group of people that were just as enthusiastic as I was about this event. People were laughing and cheering like it was their first time seeing it.

TT EE was very good too. I think a lot of people had not seen the EE yet based on their reactions to the new material.

What can I say about RoTK? It met all my expectations. I won't spoil anything for those who still have to see it, but PJ did himself proud with this film. It is the perfect capstone for what has been a wonderful retelling of Tolkien's masterpiece. I laughed, I cheered, I was frightened, and I cried. I cried from sadness and I cried from joy. Our little fellowship that we have been following for the past three years finally accomplished what they set out to do.

It has been a great ride and I am sad that this part of it is over. But I am glad that we now have the complete (barring the release of RoTK EE) journey. If this film gets snubbed in favor of Cold Mountain then the Academy will have proved yet again how out of touch it is.

For those who want this film boycotted because of the idiocy of Viggo Mortenson than they are just as out of touch as the Acadmey, and Viggo himself, is. This film promotes values that are the polar opposites of what Viggo's are and therefore it is even sweeter to see our views being promoted so well by someone who despises our views.

As an aside, if Sean Astin isn't given at least a nomination for best supporting actor then they might as well do away with the category.

Corin and WN, did you like your gift from New Line? I thought they were awesome. ;^)

Oh yeah, and my butt didn't even notice that it had been in a theatre for 12 hours....

Next viewing is at 4:15 this afternoon. This one I'm bringing the kids to.

Thanks ksen! I am so anxious to see ROTK!!! Your summary makes it even harder to wait until tomorrow!

By the way, I sent out a check this morning so it should be there by the weekend. Let me know if you don't receive it by Saturday, OK?

I've not tried Jolt either. When I was interested enough to do so, I could never find any. Now, I could care less.

Well, I was thinking buckets of chicken for dinner one night and maybe pizzas another night. Depending on how inspired some HHDers are to cook, a quick trip to the grocery store may be necessary to get some supplies. :)

You've got FReepmail.

Yeah, I thought the gift was purdy cool.

Regal Cinemas in Richmond did a good job too. They didn't do the seating thing, but they were pretty straightforward about not stealing someone else's seat. And people were good about that.

I liked seeing the EE on the big screen too. And I think you're right that a lot of people had not seen the TTT EE. That was fun.

One of the biggest laughs of the night was when Gimli delivered the line, "He's twitchin' because he's got mah axe embedded in his nervous system!!" ;^)

Yep. They were going to try launching the replica at 10:35 but I think they delayed it to 2:00.

LOL! Yeah! That was the first time I had seen the TTT EE, and I think it made the movie better.

Sigh...speaking of delays, they've now closed the roads leading up to the college due to ice and lots of cars off the road.

Supposed to turn to rain by late afternoon. It better. Getting stuck here on opening night is NOT something I really wanna do.
