I convinced Matthew when I was telling him something one time and typing it at the same time.

He sees it as being a way to get out of actually doing handwriting which he is very good at, but LOATHES.

I see it that way too, personally.

Me too... I really dislike writing by hand.

I have some homeschoolers tell me "But he has to know how to write..." like I'm supposed to expect him to write a paper or something by hand. Like hell, pardon my language. As soon as that child can type up his own book report, I expect him to do it!

The only thing he needs to be able to write (imo, fwiw) is "Thank you very much for your kind gift of ________" and his signature.

You know, if I named my baby birl after my grandmothers, her name would be a cliche Catholic name like Mary Frances.

My dad's mom was Marie and my mother's mom was Frances.

Those are not so bad... but there are some names in my family tree that I would not even touch. Real doozies they are!

I had a great Aunt Zenobia. She was married to Uncle Wert.

I have done family research on my family and I tell you this: No John's, no Robert's and especially NO Benjamin's! Arrggh!

And as to cousins marrying each other, well...my family lived in Kentucky, so....there were 2 cases of cousins marrying each other..one pair of them, my branch, were first cousins. Eeek! I knew I was an oddball..LoL Of course, this was way back in the early 1800's and I guess they had no fine pickin from the crop, eh? LOL

His teacher suggested helping in the yard.

Not quite as exciting as 'doing' OBL, is it?

"Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing" is a good program for practicing "proper" typing technique, by the way.

Our kids are using that program! We got Joseph a Pocket PC for his birthday, and we may get him a fold up keyboard so he can take notes on it when he goes to high school next year. Then when he gets home, he can just download it all into his computer at home! He'd much rather do that than have to WRITE to take notes! I told him in order to do that, he has to learn to type quickly without looking at the keys!
