The Hobbit Hole V - Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...
ecurbh

Posted on 12/11/2003 2:07:57 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Where Many Paths and Errands Meet...

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

LOL I understand...I have a feeling sometimes that other people's chickens don't have their owner on such a tight leash!

Four thirty? You're a better pet owner than I am! My dog sleeps in on weekends, just like I do!

Luckily, she doesn't mind. I usually have to convince her to get out of bed and go out to do her business before I go to work - that's harder than getting her to sleep in!

Not really..... He is strong and has been known to pound on the gate with ~intent~ sometimes in the mornings! So far his bladder has been keeping a later schedule than the one he had got me on prior to the trip.

Thankfully the chicken's water wasn't frozen...that's a hassle.

Have you ever looked into the lights MBY? My first husband had seen them. I have been there and looked, didn't see. I have stayed in the Davis Mountains several times and camped at Big Bend a lot. That whole area is where I first read LOTR, which my first husband was a great fan of, both Tolkien and the whole Big Bend area. So beautiful.

I just received an email from my daughter-in-law, Crystal with news of my son Steve.

The army is extending his reserve unit's stay by another 211 days. This will make a total of 566 days in Iraq.

The army recently suspended the pay that they would receive for any time served over 400 days.

I'm not clear on what that pay is but I think they would have had to consider them "regular army" after 400 days of active duty. It sounds to me like the second class status for reservists that I have been reading about lately.

At the same time, no regular army unit is being told to stay that long.

If the army is that short on troops maybe it's time to reconsider the draft and spread it around a little more.Except that wouldn't be a wise move politically right now.

He has moved to near Mosul and I suppose that's a little better than where he was.

To say that I am dissappointed at the news is an under statement.

I would say that ~that~ sounds backwards to me. Please tell him that we support his service, and pray for his continued safety (and good morale) over there.

I never did any Reserve time, so I'm not sure what this means either. I sure hope it doesn't mean they'll get paid less than the Regulars.

Thanks for the update Graybeard
