I remember that making me (and my Dad) so mad. We were like, "Well?! What the heck was in that ship?!?!!!"
Not that I recall. My recollection is that the cast was allowed "reaction" shots only and that otherwise the editing was an ordinary (if somewhat abrupt) cut.
Bear in mind that this was 25 years, four jobs, six funerals, two marriages, graduate school, and several children ago.
