My point was that you have to traverse a lot of North America to get to TN and the Mid West. Doesn't make sense that they bypassed the East Coast to build settlements a thousand miles inland.

The natural currents/winds flow south past the Canary Islands and dump into South America or The Gulf Of Mexico. Remember that Columbus 'bumped' into the Carribean Islands...a few times.
