Of course it will get worse in our loss of freedoms. But, most freedoms are lost because of a want in revenue, not because of any societal gain of safety.
I remember my granddaddy in Louisiana having a big hissy fit and throwing the newspaper across the room, when I was a very young age. He was incensed that he had to purchase a drivers license. He said that he had paid for the G-D roads and he was not going to buy a license to drive on them. And he never did. Years later my grandmother said that she sure felt safer after a driver had passed a test just once and paid a fee. She had a very dry wit.
