Your father-in-law probably went through the Sagan myth of global cooling. Then, when it did not pan out, Sagan went to global warming.

I been through Sagan's both of his kitchen table, though politically motivated, farces.

No, he was just reading liberal idealogues way too much. They always use that theory during cold winters.
