Those towns on the central coast have very old buildings in the downtown areas. Many of them are considered "historic". They're very charming in appearance, but are not built to current codes.

Ah yes, the historic buildings with the nice decorated fronts.
Have tood for several decades without incident or major damage, finally coming down.
Ouch.
Hopefully no major fires.
