L-Ron Hubbard was an idiot. I once read some of their site and couldn't believe that anyone could believe that crap. It takes more faith to believe that than the resurrection!! El-Ron was a brilliant con man.
He never beleived a bit of the scam he was operating.
He and 3 other Science Fiction writers sat around a kitchen table one night in the '30s drinking and gossiping. The conversation turned to the Amy Simple McPhereson scandal that was in the news.
They came up with 'Scientology' as a science fiction based religious scam. The other 3 kept writing and editing Science fiction, but El-Ron put it into practice.

I agree he was a brilliant businessman. I don't think what he was preaching was theology but rather philosophy. As I read on and on it became really clear that once into that stuff, it was no easy matter getting out. There was a link provided by the person who directed me to the Scientology link, in which there were testimonies of people who wanted out. Some were found murdered.
