We went to the Smokies with all of our kids for Spring break one year. For two of the nights we stayed near Gatlinburg.......which all of us now call the "striyup" because of this story.
We went out to dinner on our last night to a decent looking restaurant that the motel owner said was pretty good. Linda always likes to chat with people so she started a conversation with the waittress. Honestly, we weren't being Northern snobs, but she was a genuine walking steryotahpe Hollywood Southerner. Linda was telling her how beautiful the mountains and the streams were, and she said.....Ah don't know bout thayt....Ah jus lak to go up and down the "striyup" at naht, never beyn in them mountains atall.
Linda ordered some kind of nice fish fillet, and the waittress served her a full stuffed trout head, tail and all....which was also on the menu....so we asked her about it and she said..."Looks lak fiyish ta me!" We did get the hosttess, who was very nice, very embarrassed and I've often wondered if she kept her "joyub".
Of course, most of us are quite at home in the outdoors. The only real aversion I have is to bugs that see me coming and think "supper."
