I think Laressa was 2 or 3 when her mother died. She was my Grandmother's older half-sister. My Grandmother's mother died when my Grandmother was about 6. Both of my Great-Grandfather's wives died in childbirth. It is very sad to see how many women died in childbirth in the 1800's.

Laressa also wrote a poem about her father, but I have not typed it into my computer yet.

It is indeed very sad how many mothers died in childbirth - ditto for the babies. It is not unusual to read a family history from back then - where the same name for a son is used many times before one finally survives.

I look forward to her poem on her dad! Thank you for sharing.
