I am like you, Try2Discern. I thought that once one became a U.S. citizen that they relinquished citizenship of any other country. That is just one of the things that has me so confused about this pilot!

I know plenty of folks who keep dual citizenship because it is safer to fly. Picture a hijack situation where the foreign highjackers collect 100 or so passports to see who might have some leverage in their bargaining at the next landing and who might be executed...turning in an Irish or Austrian passport might save an American neck.

There has been over 30 years of ongoing air traffic terrorism though the initial decade or so of highjackings didn't hit home here to John Q.Public (though it sure hit home to those involved.)
