My husband said the same thing to me last night. He said they wouldn't be scrambling to down a plane if they had something big and that they are just going for targets of opportunity right now. I just feel that this time around there's more than we know. Last night on the news I thought I heard Tom Ridge say he wouldn't let a family member fly. I found that rather unsettling after he told all of us to go about our business over the Christmas holidays.

that was posted on FR, Bush asked Ridge if he would let his son fly on these air france and BA flights without marshalls and the increased security. He said NO, and that was the basis for all of the delays, cancellations, etc.
if this nuke thing was credible (implying we had good intel on it), more stuff would be happening right now, the knowledge could never be kept secret.

That statement was made in response to a question from the President, and was made before Christmas-before the new security measures went into effect.

My husband said the same thing to me last night. He said they wouldn't be scrambling to down a plane if they had something big ..WELL..two theories:
- It's a diversion. Get us to think that the "big" attack is a 9-11 style hit, and divert our resources away from the main activity/threat.
- Two different groups. Maybe a splinter or affiliate of AQ. (Remember how the one threatening nuke strike is called "Islamic Banyan movement" or some such thing).
Just food for thought..but I like your hunch better than my own as mine doesn't end well.
