The issue of judgement by God is a double edged sorwd to me. This country is responsible in recent days for lot of un Godly things of the worst kind. Abortion, homosexuality, Even Gay marraige is now creeping in strong. And over all people in this country "don't need God anymore". We kicked him out of the shcools, we are kicking him out of the public. As a nation God is being mocked and not defended overall.
I often wonder how long God is going to put up with it. It might not be out of the question that he would allow something to happen to us because of this.
Those lady of lourds and the fatima prophecys indicate just that. (link posted by me yesterday I think). Even go so far as to say that many will die in that winter because God is going to make it a very cold winter.
They also say that we are going to be Wiped out because God's America the beatiful turned from him.
And that is really frightening.

Excellent post Revel. It saddens me too, in a lot of ways, to see the changes of the last few years in our country.

America is special, because we were founded by believers who took the basic premise of Christianity and Judaism and expanded them to challenge orthodoxy. The notion of freedom being the natural condition of man, and the notion of people ruling themselves instead of kings were first. Then came the notion of us being a nation out to set oppressed people free. We were special. We still can be special. We just have to begin to challenge these horrible things that have crept into American culture in the last 40 or so years.

I think there are plenty of examples of God judging countries and nations NOT by the actions of unbelievers, but the inaction of believers. In that area, America has a problem, and we need to resolve it.

Ahh but was it WE? Yes, there is a celestial cleansing coming but I would hedge to say the folks here haven't been part of the We. Haven't we actually been fighting against this stuff?(tagline courtesy of another thread.)

I'm not going to argue with you about whether this country is following God or not - and in any event it's not possible for a whole country to follow God anyway, only individuals and communities within that country. Clearly many people within this country have abandoned their faith.

But should we remain silent about evil simply because some people in this country have left God? We may be sure that God says, "To me belongeth vengence, and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time; for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste." (Deut 32:35). That may indeed apply to this country but it must surely also apply in even more specificity to those who would work great lies and abominable evil and call them good.

Remember also the story of Jonah, the reluctant prophet to Nineveh. When the people of the city repented and were spared by God, he was disappointed that he would not be able to watch their destruction. But God reproved him saying "Then said the Lord, Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for the which thou hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night. And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot distinguish their right hand and their left hand, and also much cattle?" (Jonah 4:10-11).

I do not think that all Muslims are evil in the way that these self-styled jihadis are, though I do think that Islam is uniquely and inescapably at its roots a Christian heresy. I want to share a link that I happen to like. Its origin is a Christian hymn but I think its sentiments would be appropriate for anyone, Christian, Jew, Muslim, or any other faith, who is truly seeking God. It is for those who are bound for Higher Ground

It's true that in many ways we as Americans have turned our backs on God. And in his word, sometimes judgment is
brought on his people to call them back to Him. But remember he was going to spare Sodom for ,what was it-5 righteaus men and we have many faithful Christians here in the USA.
I am glad He is in control and am confident He will
be with his people and see us through whatever may occur.
