Is this gizmo one of those dew-hickies that can decode my password(or yours,or the lock on the pilot cabin door) and then place that info in a ne'er do well's hand perchance?

I don't think so. If it's like the one my husband used to use, it's just synchronized with another computer that generates random, 10-digit numbers at regular intervals (every minute). So, if say you wanted to work from home this weekend but needed access to info on the network in the office, you would dial-up using whatever number showed-up at that moment as your password. This would give you access to your office computer without making it very likely that anyone else could hack in because one minute isn't long enough to try every possible permutation of numbers as the password.
Hope this helps. :)
