I believe the Sheriff’s exact advice for home invasion was “to empty the magazine.”
There was a radio talk show guy that talked about that - one’s “life energy”. The Washington state law still has self defense of property (valued over $2,000 or something) as being legal. However, I’m pretty sure that has changed, and must have been superseded by some court case - but the law has not been changed in the rule books.
That is something that one needs to figure out in their own mind what they will do in a given situation BEFORE it happens. Risk all your life’s savings to shoot a guy stealing my car? Not me. Shoot a threatening stranger in my house with all my doors locked at night? Yep.
If your car uses an older key fob, don't leave by the front door. Thieves have relay devices and the car will be gone in just seconds if parked outside. Newer key fobs may use ultra wide band bluetooth that is suppose to stop man in the middle attacks. The key fob has to be within about 5 feet in order to work
