The Europeans are making their usual mistake of taking Trump literally but not seriously.

Sending a handful of troops in a "show of farce" backfired spectacularly when Trump imposed additional tariffs: sales of German autos in the US were already down significantly due to earlier tariffs, and the Italians (who didn't participate in the farce) must be saying, "Que?" The Poles sent no one: out of the 10,000 NATO troops in Poland, 8,500 are American.

The Danes should have quietly started negotiating a sale of Greenland or independence with a Compact of Free Association like Palau months ago.
