OK, you got a compact. I am not a small man, and I always like room in my cars. Even the Avalon is rather small for my taste. So, I sacrifice RWD before size andsix+ cylinders. Unfortunately for me, besides everything being an SUV or Crossover now means large non-luxury sedans stopped existing. That’s great that your Beemer has not caused you grief. 2015 was after the iDrive era, I hope?

During his recent visit to Japan, Donald Trump encouraged U.S. troops to “go out and buy a Toyota,” citing a purported new investment pledge. This followed discussions with Japanese officials and Toyota’s subsequent confirmation of a significant investment in its U.S. operations.

Key points regarding Trump’s statements and the context:
“Buy a Toyota” endorsement: In late October 2025, while addressing U.S. service members aboard the USS George Washington in Tokyo Bay, Trump stated: “I was just told by the prime minister that Toyota is going to be putting auto plants all over the United States to the tune of over $10 billion. So that’s Toyota — so go out and buy a Toyota”.

Investment clarification: Immediately following Trump’s claim, Toyota executives clarified that the $10 billion figure was not a new promise for additional plants but rather a confirmation of an existing multi-year investment plan, some of which had been previously announced or was already in progress.

Previous criticism: This endorsement stands in contrast to his previous stance during his first administration and as President-elect, when he was a strong critic of Toyota and other automakers for building manufacturing operations in Mexico and importing vehicles to the U.S., threatening large border taxes. He also imposed tariffs that negatively impacted Toyota’s profits.

In November 2025, Toyota officially confirmed plans to invest up to $10 billion more than previously expected over the next five years in U.S. operations, timed with the opening of a new $13.9 billion battery plant in North Carolina.

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy welcomed the news, stating that companies like Toyota “heeded the call from President Trump to make investments here”.

Toyota also gets HUGE props for being the ONLY automaker that refused in 2020 to commit to “only electric vehicles by 2035.” They were roundly attacked by left-wing activists and other car companies, but have proven to be 100% correct, and saved TENS OF BILLIONS in wasted “investments” in EVs (unlike the idiots at Ford and GM) as a result.

Yeah it’s not an iDrive and is pretty much straight forward with not too many fancy options....or as I like to call them, more things to break and cost me money.

Fanciest thing it has is rain sensing wipers, it doesn’t even have a backup cam but I rarely use the one in my Jeep so I really don’t miss it.

Hahahaha! That’s great. I love my Toyota. It’s a tank. Never breaks down. Just keeps on going.

I also like the boxy shaped vehicles. That tailgate slope loses a lot of volume. I travel back and forth to Florida yearly and need that space.

Had a Ford Flex. Loved it. They don’t make them anymore.

Got a Hyundai Santa Fe. The revised model is boxy and I got the Hybrid. Great mileage. Almost the same interior volume as the Flex. So far so good.
