I don’t believe the news coming from either side at this point, but I do have some military advice that the Ukes would be well advised to follow, so the Uke assets on FR should pass this along to their handlers:
Read Finnish history, with emphasis on the 20th Century. Because that is how things are going to end up for Ukraine.
You should follow the zeeper gaslighters on the Ghetto thread.
Talk about Ukrainian propagandists! It will be a FR lesson for the future that we let such pollution on the board.
Make peace, end the war Zelenskyy 🤷🏼♂️🤡🤡🤡
Oh look folks!! We have another individual who makes wild claims, but doesn't provide actual screen names of those he's accusing.
“Read Finnish history, with emphasis on the 20th Century. Because that is how things are going to end up for Ukraine.”
That was pretty much what Zelensky had wanted to do at the outset, agree to Russian terms to not be a Neocon Forward Operating Base - and in return be free to operate as an independent country (despite Leftist claims). Worked out great for Finland, as their alternative was being absorbed in the Soviet Union. Fortunately for Finland, no outside entities were telling them how to deal with Russia.
But for Ukraine, the Neocons scuttled that (preliminary) agreement (similar to Finland’s) and made Ukraine keep fighting and losing, bringing us to where we are now, with the only outcome (short of WW3) being a rump state...if even that.
It all begins when we hear a fresh idea. Gaining unique perspective from experts across numerous backgrounds is why many of us read Free Republic in the first place.
PAR35 posted his teaser: "read Finnish history in the 20th century... to learn how the Ukraine war is going to end." And that aroused my curiosity.
I knew Finland and Russia had fought each other at some point in history, but I knew neither the date nor any other details. So I posted a simple Google search: "when did Russia and Finland fight each other"?
That search pointed me to a Wikipedia topic: Winter War.
So knowing the widely-adopted name for the war between Russian and Finland, we can go into Google search again and ask it an on-target question such as: What was the result of the Winter War?. And you get to read a beautiful summary of key thinking on that key point.
The Google summary is guaranteed to be better analysis than you can find on Wikipedia. And the related search recommendations will lead you to the deeper analysis you are looking for.
For instance, I found a splendid essay titled, The Winter War: The Soviet Invasion of Finland a well-written piece with great pictures to break up the text.
And while we know that Wikipedia is weak on details and is often politically biased, it can still be a secondary source for things like statistics, in this case, on the number of war deaths and casualties.
One other invaluable research aid is to search for images, such as maps showing and areas ceded to Russia,
I've emphasized Google path to a deeper research (or AI as it's called), and I'm curious to see what other AI research is available at low or no cost.
Long term, I think Google is moving search users to better sources than Wikipedia alone. Google not only keeps track of how many people access sources of text/content intelligence on a particular subject, but also the site visits of expert searchers in the particular field of knowledge. If Victor Davis Hanson visits a site often, I'll bet the site gets more hits. :-)
OK, I've spent some time exploring this research method, what do you FReepers think? Cheers.
Winter War scenario in Ukraine.
My estimate is that the war will end sometime between 2030-2035.
Ukraine refuses to surrender their territory.
Russia cannot go home empty-handed because that will threaten Putin's legitimacy as a "strongman".
