Senate Majority Leader John Thune is dangling another carrot for Democrats. They still aren’t ready to bite.
In his latest pressure tactic, the South Dakota Republican is teeing up yet another vote to reopen the government Friday, the 38th day of the record-setting shutdown. But this time, he is pledging to swap out the House-passed stopgap bill for a new funding patch, likely into January, along with full-year funding for veterans programs, food aid and more.
“It’s what they asked for,” Thune said Thursday night.
But Democrats, stiffened by their party’s big election wins Tuesday that have papered over rising internal divisions, are expected to block a procedural vote yet again, according to two people granted anonymity to describe caucus dynamics, as well as interviews with several potential Democratic swing votes.
They are intent on forcing President Donald Trump and fellow Republicans to cough up a better deal and finally engage on their central demand — an extension of expiring health insurance subsidies that aren’t definitively addressed in the latest GOP offer.
“Leader Thune isn’t doing himself any favors by not coming to the table,” said Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.), who has been viewed as a possible swing vote but said she would vote no Friday.
Several other Democrats professed unity coming out of a long lunch meeting Thursday — one of several they’ve held this week as they’ve wrangled over an endgame to the long shutdown.
Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), the No. 2 party leader, said Thursday that Democrats “are as unified as we have ever been,” while adding that “people understand the gravity of the shutdown.”

Betcha they can’t get 51 votes
There’s at least 4 “republicans” that might not play along
The economy is finally stabilized. Cheaper gas. Inflation is now stable. Trump is using tariffs to bring jobs back to America (that will take a little time).
But if the SCOTUS decides to take that away from him, then there's a limit to what he can do to revitalize the economy.
SEPARATE OUT DRUG COVERAGE
Without having to manage drug coverage, hospital systems can run care coverage systems and cut out most insurance company overhead and meddling. The co-pays and co-insurance would generally be equal to the hospital system’s marginal cost so there would be little reason to say no to a doctor’s request except for medical (or moral) cause.
Hospital system plans might charge a monthly age-related fee if you lack a drug plan listed by the hospital system plan.

Somebody posted a list of about 10 RINOs that said they wouldn’t go along with filibuster removal.
[I forgot to save the list.]
Keep the federal government shut down until federal employees have their cars repossessed and default on their mortgages or are evicted for unpaid rent. Let them lose their cars and the roofs over their heads. Let them beg on street corners.
They love them “shut-down Democrats” so put their Leftist asses on the streets, homeless. They all need a big dose of early Twentieth Century hard times. They need to see their Democrat elite “heroes” rolling along with their uninterrupted income while Democrat peasants starve.
Being broke is a bitch and they all desperately need the lesson.
“Thune needs to shut down Schmuck’s Office.”
Dulles, National and BWI airports are dangerously close together.
Your Greyhound bus awaits, Senator.
Hmm Well prices are only slightly better this week for the first time in a very long time, fuel is averaging $2.50ish a gallon, my cattle feed did drop a dollar but still way high. Last month was horrible. I know the food banks I donate to are having a rough time..
There’s an Amtrak station quite close to BWI.

Military people are paid far less than the DC bureaucrats.
I think the Soldiers & Sailors Act will protect the military people for a while, but their landlords need revenue.
They should lower the filibuster threshold to 55, it used to be 67 so revisions are not remarkable. Additionally, they aren’t even voting on the CR, they are voting to close debate to take that CR vote, where it would pass. The gentleman’s filibuster must be suspended. Make. Them. Talk.
It’s time for the nuclear option.
The nation is literally being held hostage by a rogue party.
Reopen it without them.
The rats want the filibuster killed because it will end the shutdown without them giving any concessions which would anger their rabid base. It becomes an off ramp for them. They will kill the Republic if they get full control again without the filibuster. It will be catastrophic and l think it will happen
“There’s an Amtrak station quite close to BWI.”
That station is quite far away - I think about a mile. One has to catch a bus from the terminal.
Chuck can take the Amtrak from Union station, but Gillibrand would have to change trains in NYC and get off in Rensselaer.
Collins would have quite a ride.
Red states can turn over their territory for federal open carry ‘bases of freedom’ which can then be made into independent countries by a Republican Congress.
It’s also way past time to privatize the air traffic controllers the same way Reagan did at the time.
Funny, John Thune won't be in favor of that.
Now they are emboldened by their base to go scorched earth on everything from now to the midterms.
The Republicans sure picked a lousy time to have a mini civil war over Nick Fuentes, when we need to prepare for:
Or EVER again ….
I’ve been saying that I bet they couldn’t get 45 votes
Some don’t like change, some just like being a PITA
Give them an ultimatum: “You have 24 hours to accept the deal, or we end the filibuster, ram through Trump’s full agenda 100%, and by damn, you will learn to LIKE it.”
