Total Aid: The United States provided over $1.2 billion tax dollars in “aid to Somalia” in FY2024.
Significant tax funds were allocated for “security assistance” to both Somali and African Union forces, as well as “support for UN peacekeeping operations.”
A substantial portion of tax dollars was for “humanitarian assistance,” addressing crises like drought and food insecurity.
Other US funds supported a variety of initiatives including stabilization, resilience, and health programs, and helped strengthen Somali institutions.
Example of Specific Funding: In December 2024, an additional $29 million was announced for programs focused on resilience, food security, and health in vulnerable households.
