Zohran Mamdani tells Fox News that if he is elected, New Yorkers should expect to give up 52% of their paychecks
Not if the majority of his constituents are dependents.
“cheaper to just abandon everything and start walking to Florida.”
Iowa or Kansas would be a better choice. I just looked around...Florida is full, we don’t have room for any more New York lefties.
Well now that this is out there - from the horse's mouth no less - we'll see what the polls do.
Of course, how many New Yorkers watch Fox News...
Affluent New Yorkers ALREADY pay 52%.
Federal - 37% Income Tax + Soc Sec tax
Federal Medicare tax - unlimited 2.4% for incomes over $200K-$250K.
Federal Capital Gains Tax - 20%-37%
NY State Income Tax - 10.9% max rate
New York City-State Sales Tax - 9%
NY City Income Tax - 3.9% max rate
New York City Property Tax
Oldest tenant in economics, nothing is free
IF they elect this guy they get what they deserve
And New Dorkers said, “Sounds great!”
He’s proposed an additional 2% tax on New Yorkers earning more than $1 million a year. Added to the city’s current top rate of 3.876%, the tax would bring the combined New York City and state tax to 16.776%, by far the highest in the country. The combined federal, state and city rate would be 53.776%.- https://www.cnbc.com/2025/07/17/new-york-city-braces-for-wealth-flight-with-mamdanis-political-rise.html
He will probably get elected. Citizens ARE that stupid.
Great idea! See you at the table!
I didn’t parrot anything, but took the information as was given, as per Freerepublic standards.
The Facebook reel was the only information available that I could fund so I had to go along with it.
How fast will it be to bankruptcy and bailout request?
Trump has already given the commie notice he will be getting a drop dead financial response day one that he takes office.
It’s like he is just trying to see how far he can go and the idiots still vote for him.
What the heck, NYC?
Wow...I think I’ll start the DTS Moving Company...Moves from NY City to Red States our specality. I might make money...
Whenever we see such headlines on social media, esp. a video (unless you watch it or read the transcript - if it even has one) then we should be skeptical, and searching the claim was not that hard. I searched Mamdani's 2% hike on millionaires brings total tax to 52% and used use AI search assist (very often better than just the SE), which instantly provided the info and linked source.
At the center of the economic concern is Mamdani’s so-called “millionaire tax.” He’s proposed an additional 2% tax on New Yorkers earning more than $1 million a year. Added to the city’s current top rate of 3.876%, the tax would bring the combined New York City and state tax to 16.776%, by far the highest in the country. The combined federal, state and city rate would be 53.776%. - https://www.cnbc.com/2025/07/17/new-york-city-braces-for-wealth-flight-with-mamdanis-political-rise.html
Which I posted here, by the grace of God.
Good news, completely bankrupt the city. Communism could take a big hit. He wants city owned grocery stores, yet misdemeanors won’t be prosecuted. When the shelves are stocked the thieves will strip the shelves and walk out. Get a bag of popcorn. He wants the community civilian complaint bureau to discipline the cops, who in turn will stay on the sideline.
I appreciate the clarification. I was aware that he wasn’t planning on adding 52% to the existing tax burden but it would be the total tax burden.
However, I wasn’t able to find anything about this outside this Facebook reel.
Will that 52% be just the NYC tax on individuals? Or is that a combined City/State/Fed tax on individuals?
Combined, basically.
But laffer’s curve will ensure he wants it higher once he’s in, because the amount of revenue he wants to collect will fall far short of his goal.
And they will still blame Trump even though it’s their own fault for voting a Communist!!
