Some doctors and health care providers in San Antonio who rely on TRICARE to pay for services provided to military members and dependents say they are now starting to feel the pinch.

Some doctors and health care providers in San Antonio who rely on TRICARE to pay for services provided to military members and dependents say they are now starting to feel the pinch.

The Democrats’ stated priority of extending federal subsidies related to Obamacare coverage may now be endangering the health care services for United States military service members, retirees, and their dependents. Although the financial hardships facing medical providers who rely on TRICARE are of nationwide concern, the issue is perhaps more visible in San Antonio, often referred to as “Military City USA” due to the number of Department of War installations located within the city.

San Antonio is home to Joint Base San Antonio, the U.S. military’s largest joint base operation that includes Lackland Air Force Base, Randolph Air Force Base, Fort Sam Houston, and Camp Bullis. Soldiers and Airmen assigned to the bases and their families rely on TRICARE to reimburse civilian health care providers who are now feeling the financial impact of the shutdown. Military retirees also rely on TRICARE insurance for healthcare needs.

I’m retired and forced to use Tricare. When you reach 65 they call it “Tricare for Life” and force use on to Medicare with Tricare for Life as the supplementary. I’m not sure Tricare has ever paid for anything since we’ve been on Medicare. This is part of my promised “Free healthcare for the rest of your life.”

I get all my meds from Tricare for Life thru Express Scripts. I still have to make a small copay.

As retirees we can still use the base pharmacy for free—IF—the medicine is on the base formulary.

@usafretired: Not exactly. First, you are not forced to use Tricare. You choose to. Feel free to get a job that offers medical benefits, and see - - no more Tricare. Second, once 65 you must sign-up for Medicare for Part A & B unless you have insurance from your employer. Once you are on Medicare, you then have a monthly payment for Medicare. You MAY CHOOSE to have Tricare For Life as your secondary where they will pay all co-pays and deductibles for covered procedures, or you could get a Medicare Gap Wraparound or a Part C plan. Please research Medicare, Tricare For Life and Parc C Gaps and Wraparounds. Knowledge is Power!

Hmmmmmmmm; it usually takes 2-3 weeks to process any paperwork through the Gov/Med bureaucracy. I can only guess that the RIFs are making it more efficient.
