Are You a ‘Heritage American’?
The Atlantic ^ | October 7, 2025 | Ali Breland

In August, a guest on Tucker Carlson’s podcast said something that immediately caught his interest. The United States faces a fundamental rift “between heritage Americans and the new political class,” Auron MacIntyre, a columnist for Blaze Media, argued. “Heritage Americans—what are those?” Carlson asked.

“You could find their last names in the Civil War registry,” MacIntyre explained. This ancestry matters, he said, because America is not “a collection of abstract things agreed to in some social contract.” It is a specific set of people who embody an “Anglo-Protestant spirit” and “have a tie to history and to the land.” MacIntyre continued: “If you change the people, you change the culture.” “All true,” Carlson replied.

No one said there were zero Catholics here, it was “close to zero”, roughly 1%.

Excuse my lapse; I meant to say Charles Carroll, not John.

Oh I did. I even got my original (not for legal purposes) birth certificate from the state of New Jersey. I have seen my birth mother’s family tree and some of my birth father’s. I’ve even formed friendship with some of my bio relatives.

My late husband’s family were descended from the Plantagenets. As were quite a few early New England settlers.

I fear my children would be eligible for reparations though that would be fair. No doubt those upstart Hanoverians now occupying the British throne still would relish the chance to hunt down the descendants of the Jacobites and denounce them as terrorist sympathizers. Cromwell’s followers never sleep. Best not to give them a heads up.

His name doesn’t change the facts of the numbers.

I doubt it was as low as 1%. A lot of English Catholics left when the Roundheads won the English Civil War.

He’s probably referring to Calvinists who didn’t accept the divine right of earthly kings. They also believed in individual liberty, small government, and that man derived his rights from God not government. One of the early Calvinist Presbyterians in Scotland told the king to his face that he was “God’s silly vassal on earth.” The king promptly threw him in prison. They also revered education because they believed citizens should be able to read the Bible without any priest controlling their access to it or their salvation.

That’s the Anglo-Protestant spirit that inspired early Protestant Americans and their ideas are the underpinnings of this country’s constitution and its determination to separate itself from English rule. Where else did those ideas come from?

My mother and aunt were members of the DAR. Our ancestor was a captain in a frontier militia in western Pennsylvania who fought in the Revolution and was a prisoner of the British for more than a year. His descendants included veterans of the War of 1812 and the Civil War. The other side of my mother’s family fought for the Union in the Civil War. There are Grand Army of the Republic markers on their graves in a cemetery only ten miles from where I live.

You bet I want to honor their sacrifices. It disgusts me that Thanksgiving is now only referred to as “turkey day.” We hardly even mention the Pilgrims and the terrible hardships they suffered the first winter when half of them died from illness and hunger. Our history isn’t even taught anymore.

I guess you could say I’m a “heritage American” my Mother’s side of the family came to America in 1648 and my Father’s side in 1710. I had several ancestors captured by Mohawks in the Deerfield Raid of 1704, eight ancestor’s that fought in the Revolutionary War, and three of my great-grandfather’s fought in the Civil War, one of them for the Confederacy.

This Atlantic has been a filthy anti-American screed for decades and is likely to remain so until the hordes of American haters who read it finally manage to get the upper hand and their allies foreign and domestic finally manage to destroy it.

Now we get whiny b—ches presuming to lecture Americans on their faults and racism while robbing us blind through welfare or outright thievery.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.
That, more than anything else is why I despise everyone who avoids our laws pertaining to immigration. I have a Slovakian daughter-in-law who became an American citizen by the rules. I went with her from central Pa to Philadelphia for the final step of the process and watching her take the oath etc. brought tears to my eyes. These illegal immigrants are playing a dangerous game because I’m just one of millions who stand ready to terminate their presence here in a heartbeat!

I have twenty-three ancestors who fought in the American Revolution. Ten maternal, in Virginia and thirteen paternal, in Pennsylvania. They were mostly farmers joining militias.

My dad’s side I was able to trace to late 1600s in Sourh Carolina and then nothing.

But my mom’s side’s ancestry is much more interesting and clear because of how well the Cherokee kept ancestral records. My 5th g-grandfather and his son (Cherokee) were on opposite sides during the revolutionary war, and became estranged. The father was somewhat of a gentleman and for diplomacy. He was part of an Indian entourage to England at one point but eventually sided with colonists. The son was a warrior and fought a won many battles against colonists in the north GA/western TN areas.

It's already like that in Democrat controlled cities. Basically, they've turned into "no-go" zones.

I agree our history isn’t even properly taught in the public schools anymore.

Yes they are. And the fact is there were more than a few Catholics in America from the beginning.....and that’s not even counting Florida and Louisiana which were settled before 1700 in the latter case and before 1600 in the former case.

You seem to be making up some fake number in your head that the historians and records have all missed, what imaginary number or percentage is in your head?
