Indeed, when was Europe ever capable of supporting themselves unless the U.S. came to their aid.
That is exactly why Trump has forced NATO aligned countries of Europe to increase their defense spending.
As it is, Germany, England and France cannot sustain a war for more than two weeks, They have neither the materiel, munitions nor men under arms to do so.

Tell the EU to surrender to Trump and put him in total control of Europe.

They aren’t even remotely going it alone.

We are pledged to defend every single one of them and that costs a lot. We contributed billions already. We are providing all kinds of intelligence. We are producing the weapons they are buying. We are pressuring Russia with sanctions. Many other contributions.

No such thing will happen.

Trump is mocking the EU and Ukraine.

I doubt that it will actually happen but Trump has already put a shot across their bow on the topic of Russian oil purchases and he has demanded that the EU stop funding the Russian war effort with oil purchase

And it seems like the aggressive demands by Congress and the EU for Trump to impose draconian sanctions on Russia seem to have abruptly shut down

Trump has told the western European NATO allies, that they will be the primary aid deliverers to Ukraine, and the U.S. role will sell them the things that will help them do that. No doubt some of the military sales will also be done using loans (so U.S. gets some return on the sales via interest).

As long as they keep getting in the way of a peace deal and keep buying oil from Russia, it’s all on them.

We all needed a lot more Trump 20 years ago ... and almost nobody knew it.

Everything in its proper place and time I guess.

As of 2024, the United States spent 3.4% of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) on its military, while the European Union (EU) bloc spent an average of 1.9% of its collective GDP . The U.S. continues to far outspend the EU in military expenditure as a share of its economy, though European defense spending has increased substantially in recent years.

They have the financial means to defend themselves. Italy has a GDP almost the equal of Russia. Britain, Germany, and France each have GDP that is multiples of Russia. They have a population base more than twice of Russia. They make fine machines of war on the ground, air, and sea. UK and France make fine Hydrogen bombs and missiles.

My sympathy meter is broken.

The Central Intelligence Agency is operating in Kyiv and has been for some time, according to new reporting by the New York Times. So, while Biden has insisted on “no U.S. boots on the ground” in Ukraine, there are soft-soled operatives, otherwise known as American spies, providing intelligence and other tactical assistance to Ukraine in its war with Russia.
