VIDEO
Most people think of Greta Garbo as an exotic symbol of glamour, sophistication, and mystery. However, Orson Welles also described Garbo as an awkward "Swedish Cow." How could he even think such a thing? This video reveals why Welles had such an opinion and also shows the miracle of personal transformation.

For a "cow," she had the first nude scene in a movie in 1932's
Grand Hotel.

Don’t step on Greta Garbo
As you walk down the boulevard
She looks so weak and fragile
That’s why she tried to be so hard
But they turned her into a princess
And they sat her on a throne
But she turned her back on stardom
Because she wanted to be alone

MGM’s Louis Mayer saw Garbo as having star potential based on her expressive eyes. He brought her to Hollywood and MGM’s experts got to work, soon making her into a star.

BTW, James Mason HAD to do the Thunderbird Wine commercial because his very nasty divorce left him broke so he was desperate for money.

I’ve seen Ninotchka (1939) several times. She looks ok to me. But Melvin Douglas was SUPERB and made the movie. See it if you have not.
