Charlie Kirk might be one of history's most misquoted, misunderstood and misrepresented persons. People hate him for what others have said he said and not for what he said. People who do that are intellectually slothful. They watch CNN and MSNBC. They won't make the effort to learn the whole truth or understand the context.
Such it is with empathy.
Megan Farina is one such person. She found herself causing a great commotion for comments she posted on TikTok
She had responded to his death in a TikTok insisting her ‘sympathies don’t lie’ with the conservative activist. Instead, she declared that all she could offer Kirk were ‘thoughts and prayers,’ just as she claimed he can only offer after the nation’s frequent school shootings. She caught a barrage of negativity for them and she's unhappy about it.
'We have been traumatized and stripped of our privacy, all because I said Charlie Kirk - who did not believe in empathy himself - did not have mine,' Farina said in the video shared on Friday. 'I think the most ironic thing is that my life and my family's lives have been torn apart over my words on the internet by the very people who support Charlie Kirk and are always yelling the loudest about their first amendment right,' she added. She proved that she neither knew what Charlie said nor understood the greater context. What Charlie said was
He is absolutely right. Empathy is defined as:"I can't stand the word empathy, actually. I think empathy is a made-up, New Age term that — it does a lot of damage, but it is very effective when it comes to politics. Sympathy, I prefer more than empathy."
the ability to share someone else's feelings or experiences by imagining what it would be like to be in that person's situationHow can you possibly know or imagine the feeling of losing a child? I had an aunt who saw three of her four children predecease her. I cannot imagine how that feels.
Think you can know what it's like to have a child die in your arms?
Think you can know what it's like to lose a younger sibling to cancer if you haven't?
Think you can know what it's like to lose a best friend of 40 years to cancer if you haven't?
I do know. You cannot possibly imagine what any of that feels like if you haven't experienced it and hopefully you never will.
But Megan wasn't done yet.
'So yeah, I care about the innocent children, who go to school to learn, to get an education, who are children, minors, who are senselessly gunned down at school. For doing nothing. For wanting to go and learn,' the mother stated.Charlie cared very much about kids

She was wrong about a lot
'I lose my sympathy a little bit when someone uses his entire life and his entire platform to spread racism, hate, bigotry, misogyny, anti-trans, anti-gay rhetoric - I mean everything you can imagine, this man has done,' she added.Listen to Charlie defend gays from a hater for yourself.
Dave Rubin:
Hey @StephenKing, you are more monstrous than any of the characters you ever came up with. Charlie was never anything but kind to me and my husband.
We broke bread many times, and he never treated us with anything other than respect.
He even came to our house not too long ago… pic.twitter.com/Xke77Jr8t3

More for you, Megan

I have asked those who think Charlie Kirk was a:
Fascist or Racist or Hateful to give me a single example of that. There is video everywhere of Charlie Kirk, plenty of available recorded time for them to prove he was any of the things they have called him.
So I will continue to challenge people who ‘hated’ Charlie Kirk to provide video evidence, in context, that he ascribed to any of the aforementioned insults. I suspect that the people saying that about him confused their image with Charlie Kirk. Democrats are so good at projection.
I was directly referencing his quote about sympathy and empathy. Sympathy is feeling sorrowful for someone. Empathy is feeling the same emotion that other person is feeling. Compassion means to suffer with someone. It’s similar to sympathy, but can be deeper felt: Sometimes, sympathy can merely mean an understanding of someone’s suffering. I’m not familiar with your quote of Kirk’s, but I suppose he meant that compassion is felt so deeply that one is motivated to action.
I always thought
- “sympathy” meant you felt for the guy and “sympathized” with his argument while I thought,
- “empathy” meant you felt for the guy but didn’t necessarily side with his argument.
No no no no no no. I did not say the words you’re shoving down my throat. I never said she gets angry at me, and in fact the examples I gave are incompatible with that notion.
He said it at one of his school debates that I saw a while back.
Empathy is not sympathy.
Ah sorry, well strike the “you or” part, and go again!
I didn’t say it was, I’m just unsure how that relates to blindly jumping into a river to try to save someone?
