Unfortunately, yes. The 1A protects you against government retaliation for something you might say. “Freedom of speech.”
But it does not protect you against retaliation from your employer, or from any other private party.
So let’s say you say something nasty. Your employer can fire you without violating the 1A. Your neighbor can denounce you on Facebook without violating the 1A. Etc.
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
The amendment restricts Congress. That is all.
