One little nit pick - she would not be the first black governor of the capital of the confederacy. That would be Douglas Wilder back in the 80s.

Correct-he was a Democrat. But Sears would be the first black woman, and I think even first woman regardless but that’s irrelevant since she is running against a woman.

You are correct, however, she would become the first Black woman to be the governor of any state in the history of the U.S.
