I always worry that Buc-ee’s will put my favorite place, The Czech Bakery in West, Texas out of business.
I have always found that Wal-Mart has lower gasoline prices than Buc-ee’s.
I broke down in 1998 in West, TX. It was an expensive nightmare. I have heard of the Czech Bakery though. And West is in central TX, not west TX.
The absolute backbone of America is private/family business. Most are small businesses, some medium, and even a few are large
Regardless, they hire the most new employees, they often create the most specialized technology, they train workers better than others, they often have the best service, they last longer, and they are often the center of their communities.
Germany and Switzerland (which I'm familiar with) used to be the same way.
its one of the very destructive elements of our printed, fiat, debt-based Federal Reserve system, and socialist/statist government it supports - is that the private base of the economy is destroyed in favor or large, political-crony business, and Wall Street capital.
I believe they are planing one in Lakeland. This summer we traveled from Tampa to San Angelo Texas. Rented an RV and took the grands to see their cousins. We stopped at every Buc-ees along the way. The line to get off the interstate was so long we wondered if they were giving away food or gas.
We spent a pretty penny buying souvenirs, food and gas. I think there were 4 or 5 stops just one way. Love Buc-ees ♥️
Not to worry, Gator, the Czech Bakery is a shrine.
I’ve never seen a Buc-ee’s. I just looked it up and there is one about 90 miles from my home (It’s brand new). Maybe I’ll check it out someday.
Agreed about Woodman’s Market.
Owners Vs stockholders it’s not even a contest.
They’re building one in Ocala off of 75, but that doesn’t help us here in Orlando. We’ve hit the in one Daytona and the one in Jax numerous times - love the place - though it can be chaos!
Owner operated = No CEO.
Thank you. Exploiting desperate workers by paying them less than a living wage is a “crime which cries out to the Heavens for vengeance.” A long time ago, I was making $3.75 and hour in a supermarket. My supervisor in the deli-bakery department was making $18. When she quit, I took over her responsibilities and I did them far better than she did. I doubled revenue in the deli-bakery department! I told the owner I’d stay on instead of going off to college if he’d pay me $11.50 (half way between our wages). He said that if he gave me a raise, he’d have to pay everyone else more money, which wouldn’t make sense even if most everyone else wasted away the workday smoking pot behind the store.
Two years later, the store lost about half of its footprint to the drug store next door. A few more years later, the store was out of business. I’m 100% certain he complained to the village board that it went out business because he couldn’t find enough employees.
I think my brother has a Buc-ee t-shirt from each state he travels through. He’s eager to get his first Ohio one.
I buy their brisket by the pound.
Don’t like the Styrofoam trays they put it in. Wish they used those old timey wax coated cardboard cartons that Chinese take out used to come in.
Once the founders pass, successful companies may have to go public to finance the payment of estate taxes. It’s either that or find a private equity owner.
It’s EXTREMELY doubtful that anything like that would ever hit Buc-ee’s. Why? They’re privately owned, and not part of some investment firm’s portfolio.
They also are not going to be publicly owned any time soon.
They just opened one on 81 near Harrisonburg VA this summer in July. There is a second one in Va opening on I64 In Hannover County next year! Great strategic spots...the beach crowds will love it next year going to Va beach and the outerbanks!
Had their sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit.
I think I like it better than Chik-fil-A's version (which is incredible). Absolutely delicious.
Buc'ee Balls!
And the nice part is they give a flip about me as a customer.
Big Business, like Big Government, Big Medicine, Big Religion, Big Tech, is not necessarily evil (although it can become evil very fast) but it is indifferent.
