That sucks big time. Now we have another seat to defend. We’ll end up with another Bob Corker.

Governor’s and state legislatures have all the power to make positive changes in states, school choice, election integrity, etc all come from the states for the state.

She was just re-elected in November 2024 to her US Senate position. If she doesn’t win (and there is at least one other serious Republican candidate) she’ll be back in the US Senate since her current term doesn’t expire until 2031. I’m ambivalent about her Governor’s race. She votes the right way but she’s not a particularly nice person.

I don’t like safe GOP incumbents opening up their seats to new elections, just to fulfill their personal ambitions for higher office.

If Blackburn had first went out, beginning a few years ago, and supported and nurtured an up and coming GOP politician who could take her Senate seat, that would be a better way for her to “move on”. She could have said “I will be running for Governor, but I am supporting “xxxxxxxxxxxxx” whom you all know and you know they’d make a great Senator”.

Just throwing it all to political chance, without any party building strategy, is not what really good GOP office holders should be doing.
