Dem Governor Threatens to Break Constitution in Illegal Redistricting Move to Stop Dem Bleeding: GOP

Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul of New York said she might push for the state to redraw its congressional map years ahead of schedule to offset potential gains by Republicans in Texas, despite such an action being illegal.

Redistricting, which typically occurs every 10 years, sees states redraw their congressional lines based on population trends. Both parties usually employ a process known as “gerrymandering,” meaning they draw the districts in a specific way to gain more seats.

Texas announced it was thinking about redrawing its lines early, which could net them up to five more seats in the House. This sparked outrage from Democrats, resulting in Hochul’s threat.

There is no federal or state law prohibiting Texas from redrawing their lines early. Yet some state constitutions mandate that the process can only be done in line with the census every decade. New York is one of those states.

“New York’s State Constitution could not be more clear: mid-decade redistricting is illegal,” New York Republican State Committee Chair Ed Cox said in a statement on Friday. “Kathy Hochul and Albany Democrats are again ignoring the law as they telegraph their latest attempt to rig our elections.”

“If Democrats have forgotten what it feels like to be embarrassed in court, Republicans will happily remind them,” Cox concluded.

Rep. Mike Lawler, a Republican from New York who is running in a swing district, also replied to Hochul’s scheme on the social media site X, calling her proposal undemocratic.

“In which the Governor openly talks about violating the state constitution,” he wrote earlier this week. “It is abundantly clear in the language adopted by the voters and affirmed by the court — New York CANNOT engage in mid-decade redistricting. Follow the law. Protect democracy.”

Hochul never cared about the constitution. When the Supreme Court forced NY to be a shall issue state she added so many restrictions on where you could carry that it almost negated their ruling.

It’s way past that we determine districts and number of representatives without including any non-citizens. NYC would lose a significant number of representatives, and the state would lose electoral votes - as would California.

Texas and Florida redistricting should be expedited and as many roadblocks as possible thrown up to Rat states that try it. The time for playing “fair” is over.

Gavin Newsom said something similar, hinting that California could do redistricting and create more Democrat districts.

Why is it that gerrymandering is okay if Democrats do it? But liberals have a meltdown, if Republicans do it?

In California, I think it would be very difficult to squeeze more Democrat districts out of the state. Democrats already have 43 out of 52. House seats in California occupied by Democrats.

In 2024, Democrat congressional candidates got about 60 percent of the vote in California. So if there were no gerrymandering shenanigans going on, you might expect democrats would have about 60 percent of the House seats. In that case, Democrats would have 32 or 33 House seats.

Democrats are already overrrepresented, yet, that’s not good enough for the likes of Gavin Newsom. Go figure.

Who is “subject to the jurisdiction thereof”?

Are illegals “subject to the jurisdiction thereof?”

Can lawyers, courts clarify this?

Democrat have already been rigging the votes this way in NY. They have redrawn these lines multiple times in the last few years until they come up with the magical formula to win. No they have not waited for any 10 year period.

They do it and it’s fine when they do.

But they cannot stand when their own tactics are used against them.

If it’s illegal, let them try and let the lawsuits and prosecutions begin.
