Who knew? Illegal aliens aren't lawbreakers: they're a "community!"
Just ask Maria Teresa Kumar, the MSNBC contributor and head of Voto Latino. On Monday's Morning Joe, discussing the impact of the Supreme Court ruling limiting the right of federal district court judges to issue rulings purporting to apply to the entire country, Kumar said:
"What Trump does is that he uses the undocumented community as a canary in the coal mine to test our institutions and to see how far we're willing to go to start eroding their rights."
What other "communities" might Trump threaten? The tax-evader community? The burglar community? Frightening!

Huh! I didn’t realize illegal aliens are organzied as a “community” ... I presume it’s a large community “living in fear” (TM) of living illegally in the U.S. Why wouldn’t they put an end to their fear and go home? The benevolent U.S. government (using taxpayer dollars, of course) will even pay the freight to send them back to their homes.
They could always go back and work to fix their own country instead of destroying ours.

No, I did not realize that you are Jewish. There are many Jewish people who took German names so that I never know which end is up. ;-)
Now that you have said so, I have a question. Believe me I am not trying to be sarcastic or smart-ass. I would genuinely like to know: I have heard some Jewish people pronounce their name as, for example, “Rubensteen,” and others say, “Rubenstine,” yet others spell it, “Rubenstein.” Keeping in mind that there is no correct way to pronounce an American-English word, but these are Jewish words, which is “correct,” according to the Jewish faith?
As far as your “siding with Kumar,” a simple “/s” would have been helpful and would have avoided the misunderstanding. As far as “mocking” a Jewish name, I would never do that, period! ;-) It has been about ten years ago, maybe more.....I was booted off of FR about a Jewish topic when I was actually trying to be “the Devil’s Advocate,” re: A Jewish subject which I have now forgotten. ;-) I was booted IMMEDIATELY, with the “Well, Bye,” tag no less than two minutes later! I served a very long, two-year penance, then returned. ;-)

I appreciate your message. As for avoiding misunderstandings, it didn’t occur to me that an “/s” was necessary, since I assumed that people would read my articles before commenting on them.
I have been posting my items at FR for over 20 years, with the article count in the thousands, so I’m guessing many if not most readers are familiar with me. My tagline is also a strong clue as to my political orientation.
As for pronunciation:
During the wave of Jewish emigration to the US in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, some Jews, wanting to assimilate, thought that the “steen” pronunciation sounded more American than “stine,” which is closer to the German pronunciation, “shteyn.”
Others were adamant about retaining the more authentic “stine” pronunciation. Notable among them was composer/conductor Leonard Bernstein, who absolutely insisted on “stine.”
My family was also part of the “stine” group. Our mother taught us children to tell people, “FinkelSTEIN will be just fine.”
With regard to pronunciations.....You have still kept me not knowing which end is up because it seems that anything goes but I am learning and that is good! Thank you for the response. ;-)
