The white house has singled out the Home Depot as a place for increased immigration elated crackdowns. Critics say this is a bad idea, however proponents say that by removing incentives for illegal immigration, like the ease at which unlawful employment can be secured, you help secure america's border.
Journalistic report including news footage, commentary and analysis
I worked at a Home Depot in northern Colorado for five years. We always had to have Spanish speaking associates on hand, but there were never groups of illegals in the parking lot looking for work, like I sometimes read about.
I’ve had a Hispanic ask me in Spanish about employment at Lowes parking lot(similar to Home Depot). I don’t speak Spanish but I knew what he meant and told him no I didn’t need him.
You are absolutely correct...I have been shopping at HD for years, there are two huge stores in my area, (NE Bergen County NJ) and the only time I ever saw what could be taken to be illegals waiting to be chosen by contractors for cheap labor, was MANY years ago...maybe it’s different in other parts of the country and these locations are serving communities with expensive housing almost exclusively...however as reported it looks like a bad idea, and you can be sure it’s OVERreported.
I am currently building a home. The only Anglos were the ac / heat, roof flashing, and trim carpenters.
Last year, the HD by my job put armed guards with dogs in the parking lot.
Yes, it was that bad.
“Unfortunately, the Contractors who pay them are NEVER Prosecuted. “
Agree. Day laborers gathering at the far end (usually) of a HD parking are only a part of the problem. If sleezy contractors were prosecuted, the ‘day labor’ gatherings would disappear. It’s kind of like welfare - if welfare was available only to USA citizens, the illegals would not come here.
There’s what looks like a “labor pimp” at our local HD - sits in a folding chair in the shade while laborers are being picked up.
Looking for honest work, are they? I don’t think so. A friend and I once had to move a heavy desk up two flights of stairs, but it was too much for us. We had seen groups of men milling around the nearby Home Depot, so we thought we might find help there. However, we had no luck. It was three in the afternoon and too late for most contractors looking for labor, but those we approached had absolutely no interest in making $100 for half an hour’s work. In fact, they mockingly refused our money.
I do not see them around Home Depots in our neck of the woods in Phoenix.
But I see them all the time in downtown Guadalupe, by Guadalupe Mercado.
If somebody from ICE is reading this, this is a hint.
Yes this explains a number of “contractors” I have hired over the years to do stuff I couldn’t do (being a contractor myself)-—no English and impossible to communicate with whenever the boss leaves the job to supervise something else. And I stupidly thought these non-communicators were in the permanent employ of the (mostly Landscape) contractors! totally avoidable stuff like cutting down BOTH trees and not just the diseased one I wanted cut down.
I don’t think they hire illegals; illegals congregate in the parking lot, available for people who want to hire help on the cheap.
BS! You are only making arguments for the other side. HD allows this illegal activity on their property.
It appears it’s largely a socal thing. I see them every day on the way to work.
Yeah, it's loitering if anyone else does it.
“This activity is done outside of HD’s jurisdiction.”
If criminal activity occurs in Home Depot’s parking lot, and Home Depot is aware of it and does not report it to the authorities, Home Depot is an accessory to the crime. If it is on Home Depot’s owned or leased property, it is in Home Depot’s jurisdiction.
Why does Home Depot allow these criminals to loiter on their properties?
With that line of thinking, HD would be responsible for every meth or pot sale in their lot, without their knowledge.
HD is a retail chain, not a babysitting service. They have no power to arrest anyone in their lot. All they can do is call police, which I’m pretty sure will net them a non-response, in this period of “there are no police” due to being defunded.
This is what ICE should be doing, but they need to tread carefully, is all I’m saying.
As far as I know the illegals were, like at all other Homedepot, Lowes or other type store, are in the parking lots looking for day work. So if ICE, is picking them up from the parking lots how does that shut down a Home Depot or any other similar business?
Of course Home Depot has everything to do with this issue. They’ve turned Home Depot parking lots into sanctuary parking lots, with dozens hanging around within their properties.
Why does Home Depot allow, encourage and condone this criminal activity?
