so a friend of mine sent me this for a laugh — but although I like watching cute videos of baby ducklings…ducks’ actual mating habits never occurred to me. (I wasn’t raised around a lot of nature.) So I looked it up and…Honestly, it’s really brutal. And female ducks - especially of the mallard kind? — can die from drowning or from the impact of the aggression? Sometimes a bunch of males will gang r*pe?

Funniest wildlife mating ritual I ever witnessed was two large box turtles in my backyard.

It’s almost a miracle that box turtles didn’t go extinct long ago.

When I was a kid our semi-large male dog went missing for two days, and came back brusin and beaten. A female dog across the creek was in heat, and he must have gotten into some fights with other male dogs.

Asked my mother why she didn't listen to Bob Barker and have our dog neutered. She said she could not do that to a male.

Used to go feed the ducks in the lovely pond of a large local cemetery.

It was pleasant and the ducks were happy.

I avoided doing so during mating season, though.

Manatee mating is quite violent, polar bears will kill and sometimes eat the cub before mating with the mother, boars will rough up pregnant sows in order to force an abortion to bring the female back into season.

And let's not even get into what male otters do.

Mallard ducks are disgusting ... this is well known among outdoors type people.

Less well known is that male ducks have corkscrew shaped “members” (which fall of after mating season, and regrow next season) ... and female ducks have a canal which corkscrews in the other direction ...
