Yep, I am on top of that one. And Zoroastrianism was the root structure of all monotheistic religions that followed. Worship focuses on the central ethical values of Good Words, Good Thoughts, and Good Deeds.
Too bad it is one of the few left that truly practices these virtues...

Zoroastrian Beliefs
Ahura Mazda, the Zoroastrian Supreme Creator, is the only god worshiped, although the existence of lesser spiritual beings is also recognized. The overriding ethical principle of Zoroastrianism is Humata, Hukhta, Huveshta: “to think good, to speak good, to act good.” This is the divine expectation of humans, and only through goodness will chaos be kept at bay. A person’s goodness determines their ultimate fate after death.
Zoroastrians believe that when a person dies, the soul is divinely judged. The good souls move on to the “best of existences,” while the wicked are punished in torment. As the end of the world approaches, the dead will be resurrected into new bodies. The world will burn but only the wicked will suffer any pain. The fires will purify creation and purge wickedness. Angra Mainyu will either be destroyed or made powerless, and everyone will live in paradise except perhaps the extremely wicked, which some sources believe will continue to suffer endlessly.

In Islamic society, prosperity is viewed as a threat. I read that. It sounds incredible. But somehow, poverty is more comforting in the non-western world. But in the eastern world, Islam is considered western, because they proselytize and colonize. On the other hand, there is the unease with general prosperity, which is part of what drove everyone into the welcoming beard of Khomeini, and its “floral” smell.
Because Grandpa Walton was a flaming commie. I always had a different opinion of the show once I knew that about him.

I’m generally wary of historical analogies, as most are either overstated or offered by someone trying to sell you something (”if we don’t act, it’s Munich all over again!!”), but I’ve always thought the Shah was a pretty close parallel to Nicholas II. Flawed, perhaps even dictatorial by Western standards, but 1000 times less murderous and dangerous (to his country and the world) than the revolutionary government that replaced him.
I’ve also always thought Chile 1973 is a pretty close parallel to Spain 1936: left-wing government wins a close election, starts acting like it has a mandate to turn country upside down, can’t or won’t stop the unconstitutional violence of its own supporters (including sinister foreign communist elements), military strongman steps in to fix the problem.
I love the past tense “was” in all of those bios. 😁
