The AI situation is similar to nuclear power.

It can be used to provide electricity to power a city or it can be used to destroy that same city.

Interestingly in the 1930s there were a few “crazy” scientists who were warning about how dangerous it could become.

They were called “kooks” and “cranks” and ignored—until World War II started and governments decided to “go for it” anyway...

Here is what I imagine. I imagine people will be less constrained when confronted with a humanoid robot than they would be with a real human.

Just like social media has made people speak freely to their phone things that they might think twice about before saying face to face. Social media removed the ‘always be polite’ filter. And that has had many negative consequences for many people.

I could easily see myself looking at an annoying robot on my front porch and thinking if he tries to sell me his AMWAY soap one more time, I’m going to just cap him with a sledge hammer.
