I was just thinking about this on the way to work, now that Rand seems to be falling into a self-dug political hole.
Libertarianism hasn’t been implemented in any society in history. I was thinking the reason is it requires everyone to act honestly and in good faith.
In reality if we had pure libertarianism anyone who acts honestly and in good faith would just be a sucker and would be taken advantage of.
True Libertarians want maximum freedom, and no restraints at all on personal liberty. That sounds good, but would be disastrous in practice.
For one thing, all drugs would be legal. Wanna buy some heroin? Just walk down to your neighborhood heroin store.
Then you’d have junkies everywhere OD’ing and laying on sidewalks. And that includes kids who were tempted in a moment of weakness. That’s not the kind of society I’d want to live in.
