True Libertarians want maximum freedom, and no restraints at all on personal liberty. That sounds good, but would be disastrous in practice.
For one thing, all drugs would be legal. Wanna buy some heroin? Just walk down to your neighborhood heroin store.
Then you’d have junkies everywhere OD’ing and laying on sidewalks. And that includes kids who were tempted in a moment of weakness. That’s not the kind of society I’d want to live in.
Historical and current experience suggests that close to 30% of a national population will fall to heroin addiction if this drug is legal and freely available.
That is a catastrophe that no nation can tolerate. Even in producing countries, such as Afghanistan or Burma, heroin use is restricted by local authorities and by social customs.
