A false dilemma. Without nukes Russia would not be seen as the threat it is, which Russia consistently reminds the world it is. It's underwhelming performance against Ukraine, despite the manpower and hardware thrown into action, actually increases Russia's reliance on nukes, while being allied with Communist China, militant Muslim Iran, and fanatical N. Korea.
Both the Western Left (in particular) and nuclear Russia are manifestly at war with God, but Russia is the only nuclear threat in Europe n earth to the very existence of the US.
The Russian Federation retains the right to use nuclear weapons...also in the case of aggression against the Russian Federation with the use of conventional weapons, when the very existence of the state is put under threat.
“Our submarines are capable of launching over 500 nuclear warheads, which guarantees the destruction of the U.S. and all NATO countries,” Kiselyov said on his weekly program, “Vesti Nedeli.” “Why do we need a world if Russia is not in it?”
Yep. For all their fear-mongering that Russia is the enemy we have to worry about, they also claim it is weak and unable to manage even a single war with a “small country”. Can’t have it both ways.
1. The claim is not that Russia is “weak”. The claim is that inspite of the efforts of the Russian military, Ukraine, with enormous effort and with tens of billions of dollars of highly sophisticated military aid from the West, is managing to fight Russia to a stand still.
2. Russia is a threat to Europe because as Russia conquers more territory and adds more people under its rule, Russia grows stronger and Europe grows weaker. Thus Russia would be able to defeat Europe in detail, one country at a time.
3. The question is not so much is Russia “weak” or “strong”, it is how does the Russian will and military compare to the European will and military. Western European militaries do not look to have much will to fight compared to Russia.
My contention is China is the major beneficiary of the Ukraine war.
Throughout the war your source has always maximized Russia's successes and minimized Ukraine's.
The Russian offensive he reports on here has been expected for months now, and so is presumably well prepared for by Ukrainians.
Sorry, but you have the narrative exactly backwards -- it was Ukrainians who threw Russians out of about half the land Russians took in early 2022.
Russians then & now occupy about 18% of Ukraine's internationally recognized borders.
Since mid-2022 the front lines have not changed by more than a few square miles, and those at the cost of hundreds of thousands of Russian military casualties & deaths.
In recent days, Ukrainians have taken back some land near Pokrovsk and re-entered Kursk -- nothing major, but certainly signifying continued Ukrainian resistance to Russian aggression.
What about the receipts, from both Russia and The Urkraine sources?
Russian troops have always been treated as cannon fodder. My family left Russia because many of them were lined up and shot in a ditch because they refused to be conscripted. I guess they figured that their chances would have been no better. But I don’t consider Russia to be the same threat as it was during the Cold War. I lived through that and Russia was indeed the greatest threat we faced, but the world has changed.
Seems The Ukraine is falling and dying all along the line of contact
“”””2. Russia is a threat to Europe because as Russia conquers more territory and adds more people under its rule, Russia grows stronger and Europe grows weaker. Thus Russia would be able to defeat Europe in detail, one country at a time.””””
People witnessed that and many here served in a military built to hold off the Russia that absorbed country after country and grew stronger every time.
Ukraine was/is meant to be a building block, giving Russia new population, new assets and new geography that increases Russia’s positioning and capabilities for the next gain.
This is crap channel but they do report on what Putin talked about. That said they do show new equipment and tell the direction Russia is talking at this time:

What changed was that the Russian empire collapsed, it wasn’t voluntary, they didn’t change,, they collapsed, and Putin didn’t like it and he wants to fix that.
What and where Russia was 4 years ago is not what Putin intended it to be by the end of 2022, nor what he wants it to be over time.
For the war to end …. Big Z will need to concede the land they have LOST….. and recognize Crimea as Russian. Once again , Trump can say all of Ukraine is still in Russias crosshairs but reality , as pointed out by this exact thread, is they cant. Trump is not happy Putin is not bowing down immediately to his peace proposals… the war didnt end in 24 hours… as he said he could make happen, so take that with a grain of salt. The beginning to the end of the war lies with Ukraine. If folks would like to pretend Ukraine can win back its losses… throw a few hundred billion more at a money pit of a war… maybe send some young Americans over to “help” out…. Thats your prerogative…. But is a nightmare scenario.
I don’t see Russia as being a threat to Europe in the same way as Ukraine. Ukraine has a much more intertwined history with Russia than the rest of Europe. I see no reason to panic about “Russia!” Until such panic is warranted. They gave up Eastern Europe already with the fall of the Soviet Union.
bkmk
The Russian commanders and troops can learn just like Americans can.
BlackbirdSST: "One of the most defining leftist traits is the ability to hold two opposing positions in their pea brain and declare both to be truth."
I don't think any serious analyst has either exaggerated or underestimated Russia's military capabilities.
The fact is that Russians only appear relatively weak and ineffective, relative to the awesome courage and skills of their Ukrainian enemies.
And Ukrainians did not grow so capable overnight -- in 2014, after Russia's first invasions, Ukrainians were utterly unable to mount effective defenses in either Crimea or the Donbas.
But Europe and NATO are very different matters -- for some 80 years now, Europe, like a Sleeping Beauty, has been asleep in terms of its national defense and there is no real telling how capable or courageous Euros might prove in actual combat.
So, Russia's now battle-hardened army may well roll over the Euros in ways that Ukrainians would never allow.
Big Z will need to concede the land they have LOST….. and recognize Crimea as Russian

The US position, as announced by 47 just yesterday, is that all of Russian troops must leave all of Ukraine. No compromise.
I don’t see Russia as being a threat to Europe in the same way as Ukraine.

Russia is sending all its new T-90M tanks and other equipment, plus many new troops, to the Finish border in preparation to take back the Baltics.
The Russian commanders learn who they cannot steal from and the troops learn there is no food or medical supplies.
