You're both absolutely right. Apu has many endearing and admirable qualities about him, and I can see why you're both so fond of him.
And he's a cowboy in the USA, too!
Now, it's true, some of Apu's relatives in India have claimed that Apu is a little, shall we say, "light in his loafers".
