The German people voted for this. This is what they want. 80 years ago today they shot or hanged anyone that wasn’t enthusiastically supporting Hitler and his Gotterdammerung. Don’t feel sorry for them.
Well, you don’t get to vote on what your dictators do. Sorry to burst your bubble.
Not exactly.
In the mid 1990s, the recently united Germany passed a bill to restrict Turkish Muslim immigration.
I still remember hearing on KABC-AM that the Simon Wiesenthal Center issued an alarm that Germany was reverting to its racist Nazi past. I assume others groups joined in.
Soon thereafter, Germany rescinded its law, eager to prove to the world -- and to Jewish groups especially -- that they were no longer Nazis.
80 years ago today they shot or hanged anyone that wasn’t enthusiastically supporting Hitler and his Gotterdammerung.
And for the past 80 years, German immigration and foreign policy has been motivated by a desire to show the world -- and Jewish groups especially -- that they are no longer Nazis.
Don’t feel sorry for them.
I do feel sorry for them.
They're damned if they do, and damned if they don't.
If they ban Muslims -- They want a pureblood German nation -- They're still Nazis!
If they admit Muslims -- They're admitting Jew haters -- They're still Nazis!
Bingo
What the Germans did 80 years ago did not cause this or create any residual guilt for current generations. The Nazis are gone.
This is mass insanity caused by ulta liberal views that no one agrees with in Germany.
If it continues without rational change back, new resistance will form and that won’t be pretty.
Not really. Parliamentary democracy combined with political party loyalty has its pitfalls. Angela Merkel is the main actor here, and the German media went along with it all.
Once that train has left the station (a particularly bad simile when dealing with German politics) it is hard to recall and put on the right tracks.
Look how bad woke got here in just a few short years. Cancel culture didn't exist five years ago.
Sure, "real" Americans don't want it, but the electoral machinery is such that a determined party (I'm look at you Dems) can throw a lot of sand in the gears. Don't kid yourself that woke is completely gone and dead forever here, either.
