New York Attorney General Letitia James, who rose to power promising to imprison now-President Donald Trump, is facing criminal charges surrounding alleged mortgage fraud. Fox News broke the story on Tuesday evening during Laura Ingraham's show.

INGRAHAM: The angle has obtained shocking allegations leveled by the Trump administration against New York Attorney General Letitia James. The Federal Housing Finance Agency has sent a criminal referral to the DOJ, accusing James of mortgage fraud. In a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi, Director Bill Pulte says James appears to have falsified records in order to meet certain lending requirements and receive favorable loan terms. He cited a property in Virginia, that she has allegedly claimed as her principal residence and a property in New York that she claimed as a four-unit structure...instead of a five, which Pulte says means she was able to get a different type and more favorable loan.
Legal analyst Jonathan Turley has already chimed in, and he suggested that this is all legitimate and serious.

James has long been suspected of corruption, and her weaponization of the justice system against Trump is well known. That she is now the one facing federal charges is just a bit ironic.
I will clarify that, at this moment, this is a referral, and the charges have not yet been filed. With that said, there appears to be no reason the DOJ won't act on it. This was not sent over by Congress as a political matter. It was sent by the agency that deals with federal housing finance, and I do not think they would have made this move if the evidence wasn't there.
This is a developing story, and RedState will update it as needed.
Section 1014 of Title 18, United States Code, covers the knowing making of false statements or willfully overvaluing any property or security for the purpose of influencing in any way the action of the enumerated agencies and organizations.

I expect she may try to say, “That was my POA, not me.”
Presumably the documents were forwarded to her in August of 2023 after execution, and she read them.
And did not correct them?
Yeah, she’s skarewed. Hoisted on her own petard, the same law regulating mortgage document fraud, i.e. false statements (above).

She claimed Trump somehow committed fraud when the bank has its own experts do the market evaluation on his property and he paid back the loan on time and the bank was completely satisfied and said they’d be happy to do business with him again. Well Well Well....turns out SHE is the one who committed fraud and now its HER fat ass caught in a ringer.

Well, itt appears, Letitia James’s chickens are coming home to roost.
“Pursuant to my authority as Director of the U.S. Federal Housing Finance Agency (“U.S.Federal Housing” or “FHFA”), I am referring the matter below,” director of the U.S. Federal Housing Agency (FHFA) William Pulter wrote.
“As regulator of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the Federal Home Loan Banks, we take very seriously allegations of mortgage fraud or other criminal activity. Such misconduct jeopardizes the safety and soundness of FHFA’s regulated entities and the security and stability of the U.S. mortgage market.”
Pulter said the agency has “identified matters that are appropriate for referral to the U.S. Department of Justice for consideration of criminal prosecution.”
He added that, based on media reports, “Ms. Letitia James has, in multiple instances, falsified bank documents and property records to acquire government backed assistance and loans and more favorable loan terms.” The DOJ will investigate accusations of:
1. Falsifying residence status for a Norfolk, Virginia-based home in order to secure a lower mortgage rate, and
2. Misrepresenting property descriptions to meet stringent requirements for government backed loans and government assistance.
“In a FannieMae/Freddie Mac Form 3047 and in mortgage documents, she reaffirmed [the Norfok, Va., home] would be her primary residence, despite being a statewide public office holder in the state of New York at that same time and primarily residing in the state of New York,” the referral letter explains.
Here’s why that’s a problem: The state of New York requires the attorney general to live in the state. She allegedly lied on the application forms, claiming the Norfolk home would be her primary residence. In addition, Pulte alleged, James may have listed a property in Brooklyn, N.Y., as “four units instead of five units in order to meet the conforming loan requirements, and thus receive better interest rates.”
Pulte concluded, “Ms. James, for both properties listed above, appears to have falsified records in order to meet certain lending requirements and receive favorable loan terms.” The “misconduct” could violate multiple federal laws, including wire fraud, mail fraud, and bank fraud. In addition to state laws.
Yeah, and what about that other fat Fani and her wild spending spree with her boyfriend on the taxpayer’s dime? We ever going to get around to investigating that?
I get it that building these cases is time consuming, and the DOJ is short staffed with all the necessary firings. The firings had to be done before anything else could be done, and those are not completely over yet.
It's about time some of these Democrats start facing prosecutions for what they have been doing. I am pleased to see this movement.
And - "the process is the punishment".
I thought when I saw “The Honorable Pamela J. Bondi” that it contrasts with the dishonorable Letitia.
Hope they bring her to punishment.

What’s nice is that there’s NOTHING in this connected to Trump, so while the left can try to claim it’s retaliation by Trump, it’ll be hard to pin it on him because she did this to herself and it doesn’t involve him in any way.
Now they need to go after the muslim congress rat who committed immigration fraud.
As usual, democRATS accuse others of what they themselves do.
I hope they fine her for like $880 million since what she done is at least twice as bad as what she fraudulently claimed Trump was guilty of. I also hope they are digging into that corrupt judge’s past financials for crimes.

i dont know about this Bondi...she seems a little over whelmed with this job. Fine, they are going after a few of the arsonists about Tesla’s, but she breathlessly acts like she solved the Hoffa case, always on Fox News. With ther sing-song voice, she’s not a good public speaker. She was on Trumps first impeachment team, and when her turn came, she fumbled for 5 minutes, shuffling her papers. Why James Comey is not charged is beyond me..he openly admitted to leaking classified material to the media. Charge these people, make them run up huge legal bills just like they did to Trump and his people.
